So, you’ve created your beds in GarageBand and now need to get them ready for your radio show. This article will guide you through the steps neccessary to accomplish that.
The steps include:
- Exporting your GarageBand files
- Making a New Playlist
- Renaming that Playlist
- Finding Your Imported Music
- Dragging Your Imported Music into Your Playlist
- Burning the disc
(Note: If you’ve stumbled upon this article seeking how to burn a CD in iTunes, you can do that, too. Just skip to step #2.)
Step 1: Export you GarageBand files.

After you have finished creating your Garage Band file, select Share > Send Song to iTunes. This will automatically compress (if needed) and open iTunes. Send all of the files you need to iTunes before going to step 2.
Step 2: Create a Playlist

In iTunes, go to File > Create New Playlist. This will give you a place to put your music.
Step 3: Rename the Playlist

The playlist will be titled “Untitled Playlist.” Double-click to rename.
Step 4: Find Your Beds

Find your recently-imported beds. The best place to go will be the “Recently Added” default playlist.
Step 5: Drag Music into Playlist

Select all of the files you need for your disc. Drag them into your newly-titled playlist.
Step 6: Push “Burn Disc”

After you have placed your music into your playlist. Select the playlist. In the bottom right of the iTunes window, push the “Burn Disc” button. A Menu window will open. Check the options you will need. Push “OK”
Step 7: Insert Disc

iTunes will prompt you to insert a disc. Do so at this time.
The disc should burn and finalize and be ready in a few minutes. The computer will beep when finished. Eject and you’re ready to go!
Just a reminder of our class discussion today: our survey results show that the majority of our audience wants local, national and international news. At the same time, they want that news to useful to them.
Localizing national trends and stories — regardless of what beat you decide to cover — is one way to do that. As you continue to write, consider these parts of localizing:
- Put a useful lede that will give both the national event and local flavor.
- Decide how much of the national trend to summarize for your audience and where to link
- Go in order of most important to least important.
- Write in chunks that make it easy for your audience to skim over the parts they don’t find interesting, but well-written enough to make them stop on the good stuff.
We will continue to do these types of stories this semester. It’s hard to believe that a month has already gone by — there’s so much left to do and time is ticking away.
This week’s blog, “The Moment” from the New York Times, is up and running on the Warner Online Media page.
Be sure to read all entries from Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until midnight.
Again, take note of how the blog is constructed, what types of stories get printed and, most of all, what the potential audience. As you design your news blog for the rest of the semester, remember to keep it in focus and remain on task!
Mission Statements are due Tuesday!
Just to keep everyone on track, this is what’s due Thursday:
- Do the AP Style quiz.
- Write an article, with actual reporting, so something local is probably best.
- Post the article on your page by NOON Thursday. Review the readings (the links are in an earlier post) for some tips on writing.
- Upload a picture of yourself for your About page and in the Settings.
That should about do it. Remember to regularly check this page for updates.
